Biotensegrity - or - interconnectedness
I often talk about the interconnectedness of fascia in our and animals bodies and how when working on one area of the body, I can affect changes in all other areas. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lesondak speaks at length about tensegrity within architecture, and lends this concept in contrast to the idea that bodies work as machines. Instead he proposes two crucial features of the tensegrity model in relation to bodies. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Bones do not compress each other or their joints, but rather float in the fascia and soft tissue of the body, and ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. In any tensegrity structure the tension is continuously transmitted throughout all structural membranes - if there is tension in one area, it is transmitted throughout the whole, and if there is a decrease in tension, it would ease the stress throughout the whole structure.⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lesondak proposes the idea of biotensegrity as a way to understand fascial focused bodywork therapies and they way they can benefit the body holistically in an interconnected way. For animals who are stressed or who have experienced trauma, they hold tension in their whole body. When Bowen is applied and this stress or trauma is released, the whole body, and mind, relaxes.
